Bird Nest Craft
Activity - Children to choose and assemble materials suitable for a birds nest.
Cut out the bird nest shapes before offering craft to the children
You will need
Brown paper, photocopied sheet/s of chicks and eggs.

For the children
Large selection of materials for the children to collage with, these could include – fresh & dry leaves, twigs, moss, and feathers. Include some unsuitable media as a comparison perhaps – sandpaper scraps, plastics etc.
Glue, small stapler ( use under close supervision!)
Scissors ( if you intend for the children to cut out their own chick & eggs)

1. print off and cut out nest template. Cut out required number ( 1 per child)

2.  print off chicks and eggs sheet and photocopy (if possible onto yellow paper)

Encourage the children to spread out the glue on the nest and then choose materials that they think a bird would build a nest from.

Discuss textures and shape, warmth and how comfortable they think their nest is going to be.

3. Once this has been done, help the child (or Adult to do…) to staple (or tape) the corners together. Hopefully bringing the paper into a nest shape.

4.  Cut out the chicks and eggs and glue/place them into the nest.

Ask the child how many they would like and then how many they think will actually fit into their nest.
