Activity – Using paint to role play
You will need
  • Photocopies of snake
  • Slippery textured material
  • Strong adhesive or glue gun
  • Sticky back plastic or laminator

Children will need

  • Large sheet paper
  • Rocks and leaves (and other natural resources)
  • Poster paint

Make stampers before offering craft to the children

1. Photocopy the snake stamper, colour and cut out.

2. Cover with sticky back plastic or laminate.

3. Use a slippery feeling fabric eg – plastic, neoprene ect. To make the underbelly paint marker. Cut out a piece slightly smaller than the actual snake template and glue securely to the underbelly.

Decide which environment your snake is to live in – desert or jungle, water or grass. Or allow this choice up to the children – be prepared to do a selection of everything though!

1. Use a large sheet of coloured paper relevant to the flooring that snake is to live in – green grass, yellow desert, blue water, brown jungle ect.

2. Have some natural resources available that the children can create their own living environment for the snake to slither and glide over. Use rocks, pebbles, grass, sand ect (if children are to take everything home – you will need a piece of heavy card to lay paper onto, that way avoiding ‘fall out’! of materials!)

3. Talk about snakes and who likes them, have they ever touched one or seen a real one before.  Dip snakes underbelly into the paint and push him around with a finger laid on his head. This way the children will have to twist and turn their hand to mimic the movements of snake.
